Prophesy Records was an American label, founded in 1970 by Mickey Shapiro and initially distributed by Bell Records. Shapiro started out with bringing German Krautrock bands to the United States, saying that "too many American record companies have simply looked upon Europe as a dumping ground for excess U.S. product, instead of looking to the European Market (save Great Britain and most recently Holland) as a source of logical imports." (Billboard)
However, this adventure didn't work out for Shapiro and Prophesy, and just about one year later the label was sold to the Landers-Roberts group of companies, and the focus shifted to modern blues. Distribution for Prophesy's final years was moved to Atco Records in 1971, and the label was eventually discontinued in 1973.
