Label Guide: Everest
Everest Records was founded in May 1958 by Harry D. Belock and Bert Whyte in Bayside, Long Island. Belock was a self-taught electronic scientist and inventor, and his company Belock Instrument Corporation, a manufacturer of precision equipment (particularly missile electronics) was the parent of the Everest label from 1958-1960, operated as the Belock Recording Company.
Everest was devoted mainly to classical music, but it also developed a popular music and jazz division. But the label prospered for only a few years, and Harry Belock sold his interest in the company in 1960 and left the record business.
