Direction Records was a UK record label, established by CBS in 1967 as an outlet for primarily blues and soul artists that were contracted by Columbia/CBS in the United States. The label released plenty of 45's and albums from 1967 to 1970, including works by Sly & The Family Stone, The Chambers Brothers or Taj Mahal.
At the same time, a different and completely unrelated label of the same name was active in the United States. Direction Records (USA) was founded in 1969 by singer/songwriter Bobby Darin to release his own recordings. It was distributed by Bell Records and lasted until 1970.
Direction Records (Canada) was launched in 1977 by John Williams, former director of CBS Disques in Montreal. The label claimed to be "the first Canadian-owned international independent record label." Direction was distributed by RCA in Canada with separate international distribution deals for the U.S. and several European countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Belgium and Ireland.
