Penny Farthing Records was founded in 1969 by British producer Larry Page (The Kinks, The Troggs), who owned Page One Records before. The label was distributed in several European countries, and it was very successful especially on the German market. One of the biggest Penny Farthing hits was Venus by Dutch band Shocking Blue. US distribution was handled by Bell Records and started in late 1972.
In the United Kingdom, Penny Farthing was first distributed by Philips until 1974, then Pye Records until the spring of 1976, and finally RCA Records until the label was discontinued in late 1977.
