Metromedia Records was started in 1969 by the American media company MetroMedia, also known as Metropolitan Broadcasting Corporation. MetroMedia was founded in 1956, owned several radio and television stations in the United States, and ran the television production center on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, known as Metromedia Square (later known as Fox Television Center).
The label's biggest-selling artist was Bobby Sherman, but Metromedia Records had an interesting roster of underground and progressive acts, especially in the early years. The label was closed in 1974.
