Colpix Records was the first recording company for movie studio Columbia Pictures and its television production subsidiary Screen Gems. It was founded by Jonie Taps and Harry Cohn in 1958, and the name Colpix is derived from Columbia (Col) and Pictures (Pix). Most of their releases were soundtracks from Columbia Pictures movies and television shows.
The label was closed in 1966 and was quickly replaced by Colgems Records.
first Colpix label (1958 - 1962)
The first gold Colpix label with the Statue of Liberty logo was used from CP-401 to the CP-430s, or the end of 1962.
second Colpix label (1963 - 1966)
The second label was also gold coloured, but this time with a film strip logo. It was used from the early CP-430s on.
second Colpix label (1963 - 1966)
The second label was also gold coloured, but this time with a film strip logo. It was used from the early CP-430s on.
second Colpix label (1963 - 1966)
An alternative version of this label with a light blue background exists, though we don't know if there was a distinct seperation between the two versions.
third Colpix label (1964 - 1966)
This silver on blue label with 'Colpix Records' printed between two silver lines at the top was used (apparently) randomly in the last few years of the label's lifetime.
UK Colpix label (1960s)
The United Kingdom used an all-gold version of the film strip label. Other UK Colpix label variations might exist.
