Label Guide: Broadside

Broadside Magazine was a small underground publication, founded in 1962 in New York City. The magazine was hugely influential in the 1960s Folk Revival as it promoted important singers and songwriters of the era. Among those whose careers began at Broadside were Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Janis Ian (originally under her real name, Janis Fink), and Arlo Guthrie. But many established songwriters also contributed to the magazine, including Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger and Nina Simone.

Broadside Records was the audio component of Broadside Magazine. Many of the albums were produced in cooperarions with Folkways, others later reprinted on that label.

Broadside Records (UK) was an unrelated English folk label based in Wolverhampton. It was active in the second half of the 1970s.
