Soul City Records (American label) was founded by singer Johnny Rivers in 1966. The label's most notable acts were The 5th Dimension and Johnny Rivers himself. Distribution was handled by Liberty Records. Rivers sold the label to Bell Records in 1970, but reactivated it as a private label for his own recordings in 1988.
Soul City Records (British label) was unrelated to the American label. It was founded by Dave Godin, David Nathan and Robert Blackmore, who owned a record store, first in Deptford, then in Central London. In 1968, Soul City UK released their first single, followed by a handful of albums in 1969/1970 by The Valentinos, The Packers, Mighty Sam and Billy Preston.
