The Jazztone Society was the first independent jazz record club in the United States, an offspring of Concert Hall Society, a classical music mail order business, but not owned by or affiliated with any major record company. Its club label Jazztone Records operated for 3 years between 1955 and 1957, and subscribers received one record per month in the mail.
Jazztone albums were usually made of licensed material from other labels, but there were also original recordings, only available on Jazztone Records. Jazztone recordings were reissued in Germany on that country's version of the Jazztone label, in France on Guilde du Jazz, and in the U.S. on Hall of Fame Records.
