Carnaby (Carnaby Records) was an independent record label, founded and owned by manager/promoter Mervyn Conn. It was distributed by Pye Records from 1969 to 1970, and by Philips from 1971 to 1972. Mr. Conn secured several international deals for his label, ranging as far as South Africa, Argentina, and Brazil. Carnaby also had two budget lines, Carnaby Country and Carnaby Gold, and a short-lived sister label, Nashville, distributed by Philips and spezialized in country music.
Mervyn Conn was also founding chairman of the Country Music Association of Great Britain, had his own publishing company (MC Music) and was organizing music festivals in the UK. For Carnaby Records, he signed a number of then unknown blues-rock and progressive rock bands, most notably probably Spirit Of John Morgan. But with Conn's renewed focus on Country & Western music, the Carnaby label was closed in 1972.
There were other, likely unrelated Carnaby labels in various markets, we don't have any further information on at this time.
