Perception Records started out as a production company, founded in 1967 by singer/songwriter Jimmy Curtiss. Two years later, when his recording contract with Decca wasn't renewed, Curtiss transformed his company into 'Perception Ventures' with two associated labels, Perception Records and Today Records.
The label's focus was initially on Progressive Pop and Psychedelic Soul, but eventually moved to Jazz and Soul/Funk. Perception's final album release dates from early 1974.
